Looking to buy a new Gaming PC

Postby zak2000 on Mon Jun 16, 2008 12:38 pm

how does this look? i am trying to buy a new gaming PC....im looking for power but cheap....I already have a 17 inch flat screen monitor and a printer...

is there anything better for cheaper? this seams pretty resonable:

XPS 630:

Intel® Core™2 E8500 (6MB,3.16 GHz, 1333FSB) D1E85H [223-5586] 1

Operating System:
Genuine Windows® XP Professional with re-installation CD WPXP [330-0283][412-0688][420-4927][420-5769][420-5924][420-7975] 11

Memory:
3GB Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM at 667MHz - 4 DIMMs 3GB64 [311-8291] 3

Hard Drive:
500GB - 7200RPM, SATA 3.0Gb/s, 16MB Cache 500S [341-6286] 8

Optical Drive:
Single Drive: 16X CD/DVD burner (DVD+/-RW) w/double layer write capability 16DVDRW [313-6080][420-7205][420-7206][420-8152] 16

Video Card:
Dual nVidia GeForce 8800 GT 512MB NV8800D [320-6362] 6

Physics Game Accelerator:
AGEIA® PhysX® physics accelerator PHYSX [320-6295] 200

Sound Cards:
Integrated 7.1 Channel Audio IS [313-2758] 17

this is clearly a dell, and will run about 2 grand.... i may also go with 4 gb of ram instead of 3....

i need some advise with this...its seams reasonable

Well simply said, if you are willing to go and build yourself you would end up saving a fair bit of money.

And although I am not sure about this, Physics cards aren't that amazing with todays game.

It's pretty solid, but you could probably build yourself for half.

Dual graphic cards - For nVidia cards, called SLi (scalable link interface), and ATi - CrossFire, using 2/3 cards as one. You'd think you get double the speed n' everything wouldn't you? Nope. You'd get from a 10-33% increase in overall performance. Either way, you just can't add up the memory or speeds.

I'd go custom if I were you. 2 grand is just way overpriced.

Like everyone else said, I would build a gaming system myself for MUCH less money. I would also go for only one video card, as IMO going with SLi is a waste and money pit. Also, scrap the physics card. In today's games, it probably wouldn't do much in terms of helping your video card and cpu take a load off. Pretty sure most games don't employ the use of physics cards anyway.

When building your own system, not only does it cost a hell of a lost less, you also know all the parts in your system very well and upgrading your system later is effortless.
