1st time PC Build Advice Required

Postby Steve Cook on Tue Feb 23, 2010 6:02 pm

Hi,

This is my first post on this forum, although I have been reading posts as an unregistered member for about two months now.

I am toying with the idea of building a new desktop for my office at home.

This will be used for:
Video editing
We have a full HD camcorder, and my wife loves to edit our home movies (nothing seedy!!!) using Nero 9 and, more recently, Adobe Premiere Pro - Both my desktop and her laptop cannot handle this process.

Gaming
Simply, my desktop is not good enough for the most recent games!!!!

Working
I am in Instructional Designer/Training Developer, my job entails using things like Adobe Flash, again, my desktop cannot handle this!!!!

I have put together a spec of a P that I would like to build, but do have a few concerns about all of this physically fitting together - i.e. does my PSU have the correct/enough connectors to power everything?

If anyone can take a look over this spec, (I have included links to review/spec info) I would appriciate it.

This thread is not intended to be a "I think this motherboard is better" or "I think you should get this Hard Drive" thread (although all advice will be taken into account ;) ) so please dont get upset with me if it ends up that way.

It looks like a pretty powerful system more than capable of what you need. I am not sure about the 1000 watts PSU as it seems like a overkill for your system. Also 2gb memory is not enough, i would recommend minimum 4gb since you are using Windows 7 64 bit.
